This year is off to a great start! I am very proud of each of my children.

Student Planners are in. Please look for homework assignments and spelling words that are written daily/weekly.

Each planner also contains a multiplication table! Study Hard!

Please read the following information regarding grading procedures, tests, and assignments carefully so that you will be aware of how papers in the Monday folders are scored.

1.      We will take Open Court Tests every Friday. The students are required by all third grade teachers as well as the Open Court directions to write their answers in complete sentences. Failure to write in complete sentences will result in the entire answer being wrong. This may seem harsh but we are preparing them for tests that lie ahead.

2.    Open Court tests are all open book. One point will be deducted for each misspelled word and each grammatical error such as no punctuation and failure to use capital letters in the appropriate places. Again this is teaching them language skills as well as preparing them for future tests. Spelling should not be a problem due to the fact that all of the words are in the book.

3.    Multiplication tests have started. Please practice with your child. It is imperative that they learn multiplication in order to go into division and other lessons that are ahead of them in math. We are currently working on 0-5’s.

4.    We are using AMSTI (similar to AR but for the areas of math and science) to teach your child math and science. It is very exciting and very hands on. Hopefully your child has already told you some exciting stories about class.

5.    Your child should read each night and be prepared to take AR tests weekly!! Please document their reading in their reading log.

6.    I do not give excessive amounts of homework; however they are expected to read each night for a minimum of 20 minutes. They will also have small amounts in other subject areas M, T, TH. I try to avoid homework on Wed. due to church and we also have “Free Friday”.
