Attendance Policy

            Students checking in school after 7:50 a.m. will be considered tardy. Students checking in school after 11:30 a.m. will be considered absent for the entire day. Students checking out of school before 11:30 a.m. will be considered absent for the entire day. Students checking out before 2:35 p.m. will be considered tardy. All absences without the permission of the teacher or principal shall be explained as soon as practical. Failure to furnish explanation for absences shall result in the student being considered truant with the knowledge of the parent or guardian.

            Excused absences are:

a Illness.

a Death in the immediate family.

a Inclement weather which would be dangerous to the life and health of the student as determined by the principal.

a Legal quarantine or legal requirement.

a Emergency conditions as determined by the principal.

a Prior permission of the principal and consent of the parent or legal guardian.

            All students in grades K-8 who exceed 20 unexcused absences for the school year will not receive credit. All absences will be coded as unexcused unless the student presents an acceptable note of explanation from his or her parent or guardian within two days upon returning to school and this explanation meets one of the recognized reasons for absences listed above. The principal or assistant principal may require verification of any absence.

            Any student who has three (3) or more unexcused absences shall be reported to the attendance officer, who shall consider filing a truancy complaint/petition with the juvenile court. Parents will be notified before a complaint is filed with the juvenile court.

            All absences beyond ten (10) school days must be substantiated by a doctor’s statement unless excused by the principal or designee for mitigating circumstances, such as an extended illness. The written excuse should be presented to the principal or designee on the day the student returns to school, but no later than two (2) school days after his/her return or the absence(s) will be recorded as unexcused.

 

Perfect Attendance

            The student has no absences or tardies for the entire school year.

 

Outstanding Attendance

            The student has no absences, and tardies do not exceed three(3) per semester.
