School-wide Parental Involvement Policy/SACS Plan

(1) Policy Involvement

bulletParents of students at BES were invited to a meeting where the Parent Involvement Policy was discussed.  Parents who are unsatisfied with the School Parent Involvement Policy are allowed to submit comments at the Annual Meeting. They are also invited to attend evaluation meetings at the end of the year to develop a new and updated plan for the following year.  The policy is distributed to each home at the beginning of each school year in our school folder. It is also available in various locations in the school.

(2) Parental Involvement funds

bulletBrent Elementary School will utilize a portion of Title I funding to provide information to parents and to encourage parental involvement.  These funds will be used to provide quarterly newsletters, take-home resources and materials, and workshops for parents. As part of our Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) development process, faculty, staff, parents, and other community stakeholders will meet throughout the school year to determine priorities, goals, and the budgeting of funds.

(3) Involvement of parents in planning, review, and improvement of Title I Programs

bulletAs part of our Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) development process, faculty, staff, parents, and other community stakeholders will meet throughout the school year to determine priorities, goals, and the budgeting of funds. Input from all parents is sought through parent surveys which are distributed at the end of the school year. These surveys give valuable insight into desired activities, training, and materials that the school should offer to parents throughout the next school year. Each year, the Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP), including the Parental Involvement Plan, is reviewed and evaluated.

(4) Procedures allowing parents to make and submit comments if they disagree with any aspect or component of the LEA’s Consolidated Application for NCLB funds.

(5) Procedures for providing timely information about the Title I Program, the curriculum, and academic assessments during its annual meeting

Parents provided information regarding the Continuous Improvement Plan, as well as academic achievement data and adequate yearly progress reports.  Parents are informed of their right to participate in decisions related to the education of their child and are urged to schedule regular conferences with their child’s teacher to receive additional information on subjects they teach and how their child is assessed on an individual level. Parents are also urged to visit their child’s classroom on the two statewide parent visitation days held each year in October and February.

(6) Submission of parent concerns on the state wide plan

bulletBrent Elementary parents are given opportunities, upon request, for meetings to make suggestions and participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any suggestions as soon as possible. Each spring, BES notifies all parents that the policy/plan is under review and of their right to give input on the BES Continuous Improvement Plan. A planning meeting is held each spring to review data sources and consider revisions and additions to the plan.  Parents are notified of their right to submit their concerns in writing to the school if they find that the Continuous Improvement Plan is unsatisfactory upon finalization and approval. The school will, in turn, submit their concerns to the central office at the same time the plan is submitted.

(7) Building capacity for involvement

bulletBrent Elementary School involves parents in all aspects of its Title I program.  Teachers and Parent Representatives from the Continuous Improvement Plan Leadership Team participate in the development of the plan.  The policy is distributed to each home at the beginning of each school year in our school folder.  This policy can also be found in various locations in the school, including the school office and the library.  BES has ensured the provision of full opportunities for participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory students by an ongoing evaluation of needs.  Each school year, BES will review and evaluate the Continuous Improvement Plan including the Parent Involvement Plan.
