Thanks to your responses, high school seniors are now eligible to apply
to UA Early College. Applications for the October 31 Gateway Day are
available at uaearlycollege.ua.edu. We invite all interested high
school juniors and seniors to apply, this Fall 2009.

When can I apply? September 30 is the deadline to apply for acceptance
into UA Early College. Upon acceptance, student and parent are required
attendance to attend the Saturday, October 31st Gateway Day.

What is UA Early College? UA Early College
<http://uaearlycollege.ua.edu> is a new program for motivated Alabama
high school students who have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point
average. Students can potentially earn up to 30 hours of general
education college credit, taught online by SACS accredited instructors.
Early College credit is accepted at all public colleges and universities
in the state of Alabama. Students decide whether to take classes during
the summer and/or throughout the high school year. UA Early College
students accepted during the 2009-2010 pilot year receive an Early
scholarship which reduces the cost of tuition.

UA Early College helps students begin to make the transition from high
school work to that of college so they will be more successful students.
A strong support network is in place for Early College students. In
addition to the college instructors, Peer Coaches (current upper level
UA students), are assigned to the students and stay in frequent contact
with them.

Gateway Day is where it all begins! Students who have been accepted to
UA Early College start with a mandatory Gateway Day on the UA campus,
which introduces them to the basics of online learning. Students
continue their Gateway experience over the next few weeks by completing
the mandatory pre-requisite Gateway Academic Potential course. Upon
successful completion of the course, students may take online college
level classes (i.e. History, Anthropology, Art History, English).

Who's eligible to apply? High school students may submit an application
to Early College anytime from the spring of their sophomore year through
the fall of their senior year. Students must be accepted into Early
College prior to beginning their senior year of high school.

How do I apply? Go to http://uaearlycollege.ua.edu and click on the link
for the application. Students must send a completed application, essay,
high school transcript and Academic Planning Guide to the Early College
office for consideration. Deadline to apply is September 30th.
