Purpose:

Membership in an Anchor Club allows students to make a dynamic difference in their world through volunteer service...and have FUN while helping others. Anchors learn valuable skills that prepare them to be good citizens for the rest of their lives. They have opportunities to lead and organize service projects and play active roles in club programs. Often they work side by side with their sponsoring Pilot Clubs to promote awareness and provide hands on service to people with Brain-Related Disorders.

Objectives:

To develop initiative, leadership, and personal integrity.

To build respect for the rights of others and practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others.

To provide experience in living and working with others.

To emphasize the importance of home and family.

To serve the school and community.

BCHS Food Closet

If we are going to start distributing items from the food closet, we need to begin working on it immediately. For now we will be cleaning and getting it organized.

I will need volunteers to help with this process.  You will earn 2 service points for every hour you help.

Here are the dates we will be working on it.

Friday, Dec 1st                         3:15-4:30

Tuesday, Dec 5th                     3:15-4:30

Thursday, Dec. 14th                3:15-4:30

December Food and Toy drive

Each year we participate in a toy drive of some kind but this year we want to combine it with a food drive and serve our community through our Closet.

Each member needs to bring an unwrapped toy/game and 3 non-perishable food items.   They are due Wednesday, Dec. 13th

(Keep in mind, these toys are for children who might not get anything else for Christmas.  Dollar General is fine…just choose something YOU would have liked to receive.)

We will be distributing these items from the food closet one or two days this month. (Dates will be announced later)  I will need volunteers to help with this.  Please let me know if you are interested

Special Friends Christmas

Each year we do something special for our Special Friends. I will be ordering small gift items and we will present them to the students before we leave for Christmas holiday.  Each member will need to bring me $3.00 (cash) by December 13thI will be paying out of my pocket so I would appreciate if you would pay me back.

Also, I need these students to bring a bag of Christmas candy (Remember to avoid peanut products!)

Please bring this by December 13th

Community Service Points

I have the list of your current point totals posted outside my room.  Each member was required to earn a total of 10 community service points each semester.  Many of you have some serious work to do. Failure to earn points will cause you to start next semester already on probation. Those already on probation will be dismissed.

These are the ways you can earn points:

Reading to Special Friends -

As of yet, only one person has gone to read to our special friends.  Our goal is to have someone go once a week to read to them.  If you have a PE or another elective, you will be excused to go read to the special friends. Please come see me ASAP if you are interested.

I need 4 volunteers. (1 service point)

Brent Tutoring

We still need members to help at Brent Elementary with their after school program. It has been suggested that we come on Mondays.  If you are interested, you may report to the BES library at 3:15 – 5:00.  They really need our help. This is worth 2 service points each time you attend. Be sure to bring me documentation from Mr. Rhine that you were there.

Probation List –

Missed meetings – one more absence will result in dismissal.

Many of you have used your two excused absences. Any more absences (excused or not) will count against you.

One Strike - Missing an activity or bringing a required item (one more missed/late activity/item will result in being placed on probation)

Probation - Missing/late more than one activity or bringing a required item (two more missed/late activity/item will result in being dismissed)
