The Resource Department was implemented to provide remedial instruction for
career technical students lacking basic reading, mathematics, language,
science and social studies skills to satisfactorily complete the Alabama
High School Graduation Exam. Pre-tests are utilized to determine the
students’ current level of functioning in the academic areas mentioned
above. Individual graduation exam reports are used to determine weak areas
and to arrive at a remedial plan for that particular student. The ultimate
goal is for the student to receive adequate remediation to pass all areas of
the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. The Resource Department strives to
strengthen and enforce student skills to satisfactorily master all
components of the graduation exam through a variety of methods, procedures,
and materials.
The Resource Instructor
provides instruction for “special needs” students working toward completion
of the Occupational Diploma. Portfolio items: Job Skills Math, Life Skills
Science, Employment English, and Career Preparation are introduced,
reinforced, remediated, and documented. Remedial instruction provides
students with knowledge, skills, understanding, problem solving strategies,
and attitudes needed to perform in the business world.
The Resource Instructor
also serves as the Cooperative Education Coordinator. Cooperative
Education is a structured component of the Career/Technical Education
curriculum that integrates classroom instruction and learning with
productive, supervised work experiences in fields related to students'
career objectives. Content is planned for students through a
cooperative arrangement between the school and employer using the resources
of the community.
Mrs. Joy Hicks teaches this subject.
