Wesley Carter, Number One in the
Nation
Wesley Carter, a senior at Bibb County Career
Tech Center, placed first in the nation in the Forestry Applications phase
of the National FFA Forestry Career Development event held in October 2005
in Louisville Kentucky. The Forestry applications phase is the field work
part of the event and includes timber cruising, tree identification, and map
interpretation.
Wesley is a
member of the Bibb County Career Tech Center FFA.

The National Forestry Career Event
The Bibb County Career Tech
Center FFA Forestry team competed in the National FFA Forestry Career
Development Event the last week in October in Louisville Kentucky.
Team members included
Joseph Deason, Anthony Bramlett, Bert House, and Wesley Carter. The team FFA
advisor is Roger Brothers.
The national Forestry CDE
includes a written exam, a forestry issues interview, a business management
problem, timber cruising, compass and pacing, topographic map
interpretation, forest insects and diseases, chainsaw trouble shooting,
timber stand improvement, equipment identification, tree identification, and
wood identification.
Wesley Carter placed number
one in the nation in the forestry applications phase and number three in the
nation overall. Wesley received a $750 scholarship.
The team placed number five
in the nation out of the 39 states represented and received a Gold Emblem
award from the National FFA.
The national event is
sponsored by BASF and International Paper. The state event is sponsored by
the Alabama Forestry Association.

BCCTC Forestry Team Prepares for
National Competitions
The Bibb County Career Tech Forestry team
placed first in the State in the FFA
Forestry Career Event held
in Auburn this past June.
The event includes a
written general forestry knowledge exam, timber cruising, Timber stand
improvement, compass and pacing course, tree identification, legal land
description and topographic map interpretation. The team will represent
Alabama in the National FFA event in Louisville Kentucky 23-29 October.
In addition to all the areas included in the
State event, at the National event these students will compete in an
individual Forestry issues interview, Tree disorders identification, wood
identification, chainsaw trouble shooting and safety, Forestry equipment
identification and a Business management problem
Katrina Makeup Day Set
The Bibb County Board of Education met Monday,
September 19, and voted to make up the day lost due to Hurricane Katrina on
Wednesday, November 23.
