Forestry is
designed to enable students to become knowledgeable of forestry and wood
technology. Students acquire an appreciation for increased emphasis on
managing and securing forests for the future. Students develop skills
for producing, managing, harvesting, marketing, and developing forestry
products. Students also develop skills in the area of biotechnology,
surveying, and mapping. Students evaluate practices to insure
protection of natural resources found in the forest ecosystem.
Students learn to identify forest trees, forest products, forest insects,
and forest diseases. Students use tools associated with forestry and
wood technology. Students develop leadership skills, realize personal
growth, and are better prepared for career success through the knowledge
gained and skills acquired in this course.
The curriculum is expanded to
accommodate specific community interest and utilize local resources.
This course encourages critical thinking, use of the scientific method,
integration of technology, development of student leadership skills, and
application of knowledge and skills related to practical questions/problems.
Safe field and laboratory investigations are used in instruction to
illustrate scientific concepts and principles and to support inquiry
instruction.
This course emphasizes FFA
opportunities that develop students' potential for premier leadership,
personal growth, and career success.

WESLEY CARTER PLACES FIRST IN NATION
Wesley Carter placed 1st in
Forestry Applications and 3rd in the nation overall at the National
Competition in Louisville, Kentucky, October 23-29..
Congratulations, Wesley! STATE FFA FORESTRY CHAMPIONS
The Bibb County Career Tech Forestry team placed first
in the State in the FFA
Forestry Career Event held in Auburn this past June.
The event includes a written general forestry knowledge
exam, timber cruising, Timber stand improvement, compass and pacing course,
tree identification, legal land description and topographic map
interpretation. The team will represent Alabama in the National FFA event in
Louisville Kentucky 23-29 October.
In addition to all the areas included in the State
event, at the National event these students will compete in an individual
Forestry issues interview, Tree disorders identification, wood
identification, chainsaw trouble shooting and safety, Forestry equipment
identification and a Business management problem |
