Mr. Duncan graduated from
Shades Valley High School in 1974, where he was very active in student
government, athletics, and other student organizations. After
completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of
Alabama at Birmingham, he began his teaching career in the Jefferson County
Schools. He soon became a Community School Coordinator and then an
Assistant Principal at W. A. Berry High School before accepting his first
principalship at his former elementary school, Irondale Community School.
He accepted the position as 10th grade principal at W. A. Berry
High School and was later appointed principal. Upon completion of the
construction of Hoover High School, Mr. Duncan moved into the new facility
as associate principal. He later became the Coordinator of High School
Partnerships at Bessemer State Technical College, where he remained for
eight years before accepting the position of Director of Career/Technical
Education at the Bibb County Career Tech Center in 2004 – a position he says
is “the best I’ve ever had!”
Mr. Duncan and his wife
live in Jefferson County where they are very active at Hunter Street Baptist
Church. They have two grown children, Lauren and David, and a
four-and-a-half-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Dexter. Mr. Duncan enjoys
hunting, fishing, and working in his yard.
