Bibb County Career Academy is located in Bibb
County, Alabama, at 17191 Highway 5, West Blocton. The facility is
located on top of a hill in a natural setting. A winding driveway
leads through a forest of southern pine trees to the buildings. This
setting provides students and faculty a peaceful environment in which to
work and learn.
BCCA
has served students from Bibb County High School and West Blocton High
School for 30 years. The school opened its doors in 1974 as Bibb
County Area Vocational School under the direction of Mr. Joseph Chapman.
His wife, Dixie, taught Business Education while he served as director for
many years. Three directors served after Mr. Chapman--Mr. Joe Roy
Elam, Mr. Don Harmon, and Mr. John Bovis. Mr. Bovis started in 1995
and retired in May 2004. In 2004 , the name was changed to the Bibb
County Career Tech Center.
Mr.
Dennis Duncan took over the position of Director July 19, 2004.
Mr. Duncan has served as principal of Berry High School and as assistant
principal of Hoover High School, both of which are located in Shelby County.
He came to BCCA after working at Bessemer State Technical College for eight
years.
BCCA
provides seven career technical programs as well as a magnet school and a
resource services department for at-risk students.
In
2008, the school was renamed to the Bibb County Career Academy.
