CONFERENCE AND
COMPETITION

Five Healthcare
Science (HS) students participated in the State HOSA Competition at Bevill
State Community College in Jasper, Alabama. Merissa Montez won FIRST Place
in the Clinical Specialty competition. She was to identify and research a
medical career of her choice. She then compiled and submitted a portfolio
of extensive information related to the chosen career. Along with the
portfolio, she was to provide a video of herself performing and explaining
a skill related to the career. Merissa chose “Paraoptometric Assistant” as
her chosen career and demonstrated the procedure for a Heildberg
Retina Tomography (HRT.) Merissa is a senior HS student and currently
employed by Dr. David Allgood. Kendall Colburn placed THIRD in the
state in Nursing Assisting, which consisted of a written knowledge test
and a skills performance test. Kendall is also a senior HS student and is
currently employed as a Nursing Assistant at Bibb Medical Center.
Kimberly
Hudson competed in Dental Assisting. She is currently employed by Dr. Phil
Adams. Matissa Adolphe competed in Veterinarian Assisting and is currently
employed by Dr. Kevin Bolding. Heather Holifield competed in Physical
Therapy Assisting. All students did very well and came away from the
Conference feeling good about their performances. Congratulations to all
five competitors!
